We have a cabin sided with cedar logs. We like the color of the wood as is and want to use a penetrating clear preservative, but every one tries to sell us a pigmented stain. Any sugestion for a clear preservative or why we should not use it? Thanks.

Use something with a good pigment. There is not a clear that will hold up more than 6 months to a year and it is very expensive to remove and fix.
