Question:

My log home is approaching 20 years old. Should I be doing anything to treat or protect the exterior as well as the pine interior. Also, many of the ceiling logs have severe chinking. Is that a problem? Thank you.

Answer:

You should treat the exterior with a good borate like Shell Guard. I believe you are saying that the interior logs have checking, and it isn't a concern.
