Question:

is there a way to remove the silicone caulk that smeared on stained logs (when caulking butt joints). I have removed excess between logs but dont know how to get rid of smears

Answer:

Needs to be sanded off and silicone should never be used on wood. Use only a good latex caulk made for log homes like Energy Seal.
