Question:

We are thinking about putting vinyl siding over our log home because we have a lot of problems with squirrels, woodpeckers, and carpertener bees. We have the logs that have chinking and overlaping logs at the corners. Will we need to put insulation under the vinyl? How hard will this be to do?

Answer:

You shouldn't have to install insulation, but a vapor barrier for sure. You must take care of any rotten logs first or they will continue to rot under the siding causing structural issues later.
