I have 1/2 pine log siding its been on the house for 8 years. It seems to be very dry and there is some black areas in it.Is it mold or from the sun? What is the easiest way to remove the black stuff so I can start staining? And what can I put on it for the dryed and cracking?

You probably need to media the old finish off and start over. It is black mold growing under the stain and can only really be removed properly by stripping. Sanding it off would work as well, but more labor.
