At the end of September or the beginning of October we had our front door painted which is a six panel wood door. After a few days a white residue showed up and the paint rep came out to take a look at it. they applied warm soap and water to the door. By then the days were cooler and we have experienced so e freezing nights.. The residue returned, but now is accompanied by a nasty vertical crack in one panel, which goes completely through the door. There may also be another developing, as the

It sounds like the door was not completely dry before you painted it. Since it has cracked you will probably have to replace it and start over again. Not sure what the white residue is about. Sounds like mold.
