The exterior logs on our home are starting to look very dry, and some of the checks are starting to open up a little bit. We would like to apply a few coats of log home oil. Do we need to replace the chinking every time we restain? The chucking looks like it is in great shape.

you will have to cut in with a brush on each log or just stain over the chink then apply chink paint to freshen up. Some people just leave the chinking stained for ease of maintenance.
