Question:

I'm working on a portion of a log wall that was built in 1857. My problem is i don't know what to do about sealing the wall so that the loose mud will not fall out . The wall is exposed in our new family addition.

Answer:

You need to knock it all out and re-do it with either mortar for the historic look or latex chink that looks like mortar with the right color. If this is a wall that is exposed on the out side I would go with the latex.
