Question:

We have a log cabin located in VT. It was built around 1968. We purchased this in 2001. We are not sure when the last stain was applied and it has never been chinked. We have drafts coming in when its cold and windy. We also noticed very small black bugs up on the 2nd floor area. They look like oval shaped poppy seads. What could they be and is there a way to get rid of them?

Answer:

You should have the home corncob blasted, borate treated, chinked/caulkedand re-stained. The borate should take care of the bug situation.

Lasr fall an exterminator told us to wash the wall showing evidence of post boring beetles this spring, then wait and watch for any new powder traces, claiming they sometimes leave on their own. Any truth to this?
