Question:

Thank you so much for the very quick response. I have a follow up question. If there could be an issue with my sanding using 80 grit, what grit sandpaper do you suggest for white cedar? Since I'm not sure I will get to stain this year, I could go over once more with 60 or 40 grit next spring, do you think that would re-rough the surface for better adhesion.

Answer:

A quick go over with 60 grit wouldn't be a bad idea. Cedar is even more susceptible to peeling if too smooth due to all of the tannin in it.
