For the chinking mixture I have a recipe for 1 part morter mix 1 part portland cement 5 parts sand. Would that be red sand or white sand?


Depends on what color you want to end up with. Also, I do not recommend using mortar for chink unless you are working on a historic site. Will cause problems in the future with rot.
