Your thoughts on using a stainable woodfiller (Minwax)to fill insect holes and groove in logs prior to staining w/ latex stain.

Answer:

I would recommend using Energy Seal instead. If you mean the checks when you say "grooves in the logs", do not fill them.

We live in s cent MO & have a 5yo cabin. It has been caulked & painted outside. My wife, who comes froma tropical climate, thinks we need to caulk the outside totally so the logs are smooth. She contends that the water/ice will get in the cracks and rot the logs plus bugs witll nest there. I say caulk the cracks from the inside. Comments please.
