Question:

I'm considering buying a log home. I know NOTHING about log homes, but am considering this one because of the amount of land that comes with it, and the price. However, I fear that the home is in such bad shape that I'll need to tear it down! Some photos (that the foreclosure agent actually sent me!) are posted at http://picasaweb.google.com/martha123/LogHome?authkey=Gv1sRgCIv7xIWLz5-31QE&feat=directlink

As I look at them, I see disaster. With your knowledge -- is it as bad as it looks?

Answer:

It is in pretty bad shape, but not beyond repair. Plan on $50 - $60 per foot to replace all rotted logs. Once you get the footage times it by 1.3 since you probably can't see about a third of the rot until repair is started
