I all ready put a polyurethane over my oil base finish will the chinking stick to it?

I have a northeastern log home kit that I built in the early 80s , it is eastern white pine that is tongue and groove that has a flat v-match interior surface I,m thinking about chinking the inside would I need to put a backing in this v-match groove, if so would 1/4 in. do.
