I am building a log cabin from the logs on my property. Cutting down the logs, hand stripping them, notching them out and putting it all together on sight. I have been told that I should not stain the logs because they will last longer and it will just require a ton of maintenance re-staining every year or two from then on. Any thoughts on that?

It will require a lot of maintenance, but I would at least give it a good soaking with Shell Guard borate to help stop rot and boring bugs. Better if you apply it while the logs are still semi green.
