Howdy from Jackson Hole! Following bad advice, I screwed slab lumber over old siding & had a pro put on synthetic chinking. Repeated catastrophic chinking failures are caused by moisture migrating up behind it. I'm considering putting round 1" mini louvers with screens in new chinking. Also, putting silicone or chinking goo (which do you recommend?) under the bottom "log" to limit vapor migrating up. Replacing the slabs is just about impossible. Help! I'm at my wit's end! Happy Trails!

I'm not sure what what you mean by 1" mini louvers. Do not use silicone on wood. sounds like the slabs where not completely dry before the chinking process.
