Question:

We own a 7 year old log home in Tennessee. Logs are huge round and it was originally sealed with permachink. It is no longer airtight and we can see some sunlight in corners and around some window frames. Electric bill shows it is leaking air. Suggestions have been made to have an infrared test be done (cool the home, create suction, and use special cameras to see leaks), then sealing will be done only where needed.
The house is large (7200 square feet) so focusing the work where needed wil

Answer:

If the heating bill is that bad I would recommend having it completely re-chinked. You could try the infrared testing and see how bad it is, but I'm guessing that you are going to find that it needs it every where and it would make more sense to just do it complete.
