Bought a 14 year old pine log home in Colorado. The guy who owned it died, so we have no clue what brand or type he used on the stain cover we do see. I think it needs to be re-coated. Can we just assume we should go buy a oil based stain (non-linseed)? I'm trying to avoid stripping the stain off the entire house, which would be quite a job.

Sashco Transformations stain "says" that it can be applied over stains that are non-identifiable.
