Question:

My log home was built in1977, the inside of the walls are varnished. I was told if the inside was finished not to do anything to the outside. Now my home owners insurance is telling me I have to seal the outside. The outside has no finish at all on it.

Answer:

You absolutely should have something on the exterior. Just do not use paint. Put the money into a good quality log home stain like LifeLine. It will need to be media blasted to get back to a clean surface and then Osborne brushed to make a desirable surface to apply stain to.
