Question:

If you were planning to build a new log home near Springfield, MO and were considering oak, pine or Engelmann Spruce logs, which would you choose and why? Please disregard shipping costs when answering.

Answer:

The oak is probably a little less susceptible to rot than the pine or spruce. The cost of oak would probably be twice as much. All wood must be maintained to avoid rot. Be sure that the builder applies a borate treatment before staining.
