I've noticed that most half log siding is manufactured out of 2x dimensional lumber. Is this durable? Should we take any special precausions when using 1/2 logs? And finally, is there a milling machine that will allow us to convert 2x material into our half logs?

I'm sure that it is durable if maintained properly. It is like any other siding. The maintanence on this siding isvery similar to true logs. I am not aware of a milling machine. Try contacting a local sawmill.
