Question:

My log home is about 2 years old and we have flies and bees coming in and some water in one area. My main concern is getting the bugs out! I think they are coming in around the perlins, there is obviously gaps and we cannot get to them with caulk.

Answer:

Hi Steve! This is a tough problem! The best way we have found to stop them from entering your home is to go along each perlin with fiberglass insulation and stuff it between the roof boards and the perlin the entire length. Then, if possible, caulk on top of that. We use flat putty knives and small round sticks to push this material in. It's time consuming, but worth the effort if done properly! Thanks, The Log Doctor.

My log home is about 30yrs old and has had some pretty bad powder post beetle damage in the last three years(some hollow voids). As far as restoration, I was told complete replacement can be avoided since the corners are completely intact everywhere. The suggestion was a process of removing sections and using plugs and venere with epoxy. What are your thoughts. Thank You!

I don't know where you are located - but we are in Montana and we found a company that took care of our problems. Deny The Log Home Maintenance out of Corvallis, MT. We have about 90% less flies and all of our cold drafts are gone. Check out their website at www.denythefly.com 800-478-1502
