Question:

I was reading your Chinking vs. Mortar page and it disappeared. Can't find it!!! Important I read it as I'm doing a 1500 sf addition to my "new" kit log home with 200-yr-old logs. I want to use mortar but afraid it will crack and crumble. HELP!

Answer:

Mortar will not seal the logs properly and will cause rot over time. The latex chinking will never get hard like mortar and stretch with the movement of the logs.
