Question:


I am a painter in maine and a friend has recently bought a log cabin and wants me to restain it. I do not know what was last used nor do they, the old owners realy let it go main tanance wise. Some areas of the logs have weared away and started to gray, Her realestate agent said it could be bleached but she doesn't know anything , just wanted to make the sale
What should I do to prep the surface and what can I use that will come out uniform . Thank you

Answer:

If you want it blotchy use stripper. If you want it to turn black and fail early, powerwash it. It should corn cob blasted, borate treated and then stained with a good quality latex log home stain.
