My Mother inlaw lives in a restored hunting lodge biult in the 1800's and some of the old I think called (Oakum) chinking or filler has fallen out. It looks like what a bird would make a nest out of in there but I guess it's what they used back then for filling. I'd really like to use something similar if I could to keep the authentic look of there home and was wondering if there was a product out there that they made. I'm desperate as the weather is changing fast and it will soon be freezin

I have relocated an 1820's log cabin, my problem is rain with driving wind will blow rain through the old cracked logs and get logs inside very wet is there a product I can put on the outside to seal large cracks without changing the natural color on this my weathered side otherwise will build a lean to roof to shelter for firewood on this side thanks

Here is my formula for chinking old log cabin, put wire mess in center between logs, mix 12 shovels sand 1/2 bag portland cement, 1/2 of a 5 gal bucket of lime ( makes it sticky) 3 handfulls of fiber a dash of bonding, 1 bag of dark buff in a 5 gal bucket of water, this will give the old look of chinking not white! You can insulate some inside put in more wire mess and chink inside
