We have a 30-year-old cabin. The inside is chink nicely, but the outside is a mish-mash of chinking (painted over), insulation painted over, caulking (not painted over) and in some places it appears nothing. The chinks are various sizes due to log shift. How do we go about fixing this–pull all of it off and start over or chink over? We want to paint it when done.

First off, NEVER paint a log home. If you want a painted look use a solid color stain like Sherwin Williams Woodscapes. I would recommend removing everything and starting over with Grip Strip backer and Perma Chink. Call Dave at 800-564-2987 for more help and the materials you will need.
