We are refinishing a log home built in the 80’s I already pressure washed it before I read your web site. What do I do now? how long before it is safe to stain? I was told that you have to use grip strip under energy seal caulking and chinking. The smallest grip strip is 3/4 so your caulking lines are going to be 3/4 to cover the grip strip. Also can you use grip strip in the corners where the logs come together (the zipper) or it is better to use backing rod? Please help. Everyone I ask has a
You should let it dry at least one month if you pressure washed it very hard. You do not have to put a backer in small chink lines if a 3/4” piece does not fit. You can use Grip Strip in the corners if needed. I am not a big fan of the backer rod since the round surface tends to make the caulk or chink too thin in the middle of the line.
