Considering Chinking Options for a Log Home Built in 1979

Our log home was built in 1979 and does not have any chinking. Is chicking a must or just a preference? I really don’t like the way it looks. Can chinking be colored to match the logs?

Chinking is usually a must, since it made to be used in gaps greater than 3/4”. Anything smaller requires caulk. Typically over time most log homes with small chink lines need to be caulked. More of a preference on the interior.
