We are in the process of staining the interior of our white cedar log home and every stain I’ve tried looks red or orange. Is this because of the cedar? Is there a way around this? I just wanted a nice brown. The exterior has been stained and looks red, especially in certain light.

It probably is the wood, but could be the stain that you are using. You can take one color of stain and put it on 3 different kind of wood and get 3 different colors. I would recommend staying with stains that are heavy on the brown side and do a couple of light coats. As always, do sample areas that are in a inconspicuous spot on the house to sample colors.
