Building a Vertical Log Home with Flattened Logs

I would like to build a vertical log home. I have read about some using vertical poles spaced 24” apart and filling with horizontal logs. I have also read that when you flatten a side of the log you cut through the protective ”seal” nature has on the log and it leaves the log vurnable to rot damage. I have thought I would like the logs cut in half so that the walls would be flat on the inside and also have the sides where the logs meet flat with a spline inserted. What kind of mess would I b
