I am a former carpenter and need some advice on how i can raise my exterior log walls that have settled even though they were kiln dried. This is needed as the interior walls are now are bowing the floor due to the exterior wall shrinking in height. The 9ft. walls appear to have shrunk approx 1 inch. Thank you in advance.
It will be difficult to raise the home properly. Normally there are slip joints at the tops of all interior walls to allow for the settling. Also, the doors and windows should have room left at the top to allow for this also. Drywall should not be scribed to the logs, but instead there should be a notch cut down the logs and tuck the drywall in it to allow for movement.Plumbing with movement coils and duct work with slip joints are alsoneeded with this settling. I have seen some of the larger log homes settle as much as 10 inches.I would look for a good foundation specialist in your area and see if they can help.
