Brand new cabin built from spruce. Haven’t put anything on the logs, as I don’t want any chemicals or anything gassing off, which would also defeat the purpose of living in a natural wood home. Someone told me do the ends of the logs with a mix of white glue and water-just to seal them. I was thinking this on the entire home. Looking forward to your reply thnx
Never heard of that one so I can’t say, but I would recommend applying a good borate solution like Shell Guard on the the exterior and letting it go natural. I really do not think you are going to get any ”gassing’ from this. It is a safe treatment for wood.
If you do not at least do that, Spruce was not a good choice since it can rot fairly quickly if not protected. Cedar or Cypress are more self sustaining.
