Hi, I have a cedar sided home which was last stain in 2000/2001 and due for another treatment. The stain used was a semi-transparent oil based stain CWF 50% clear and 50% cedar. I would like to be able to get more life out of the treatment, not just 5 years. What are your thoughts on power wash the house, add 1 coat of cedar tone Cabot 5/15 year stain, add another coat of cedar tone Cabot stain and finally adding a latex stain. Would this increase the protection and life of the stain? And
First, CWF is the last thing I would put on my log home. Even the best of the best log home stains require a maintenance every 3 to 5 years. Last, NEVER powerwash unless you are willing to wait 1 to 2 months for it to dry out properly. At that point you will need to wash it to remove dirt and molds before staining.
