It has been about 20 months since our hand pealed 10” log home was first stained. We are ready to apply the second coat of stain. We want to know how to clean the logs before staining. We notice some mold spots on two sides of the home.(we are next to wet lands). We will be adding insecticide and mold inhibitor additives to the new stain. Lorraine
You can wash it with 1 cup TSP,1 cup bleach and 4-5 gallons warm water. Wash the logs with a soft brush and then mist to rinse. We also like to use warm water and Mean Green soap. It has a mildacide/fungicidein it for the mold problem also.
The insecticide you are adding to the stain will only work if you keep the logs clean of dirt and dust. The insects need a clean contact with the stain for it to work. We recommend a light washing spring and fall for it to work properly.
