Is there any reason why I could not paint the log walls inside my house a color rather then leave them as wood looking as they are?

Paint away! As long as it is on the interior of the log home it would be fine. NEVER paint the exterior of a log home. If you want the painted look use a solid color stain on the exterior. Sherwin Williams Woodscapes is a good choice for solid color stain.
