We have outdoor pine log benches that are 8yrs old and deteriorating . We have covered them during the winter months for the last 2 yrs. What repair and maintenance can we do to extend the life of the benches.

Anything wood with a finish that is outside without any cover will need attention every year or two. There is no magic finish that will last for years. Decks, rails or any flat surface will go bad quickly. You will need to Osborne brush them and apply a fresh finish. Maybe have some covers made to put on them when not in use.
