We are considering buying a log home built in 1988 in southeastern Wisconsin. What kind of yearly or ongoing maintenance can we expect will be needed?

I always say to budget $1 per square foot of house / per year for maintenance. You need to keep the finish up. Once it fails you are into big bucks to strip it off and refinish.
