recently I removed plaster and lathe in my upstairs and discovered log timbers and a newspaper from 1897. I don’t want to drywall over it! But restore the wood and chickering-any info would be appreciated and want to do it myself. Thank you

I would say media blasting it to get all of the dust and dirt out of it, Osborne brush it then apply a light stain or just a couple of coats of clear. Most rental stores have a small blasting unit for small projects. You can get the Osborne brush and stain from Dave at 800-564-2987. He will also be able to answer questions and give you some guidance.
