Hello…great site..we bought a log cabin that is about 10 years old and it has never had any kind of sealer applied to it. It also has about 2 to 3 inches of chinking between the logs. I guess it will need blasted then sealed how do you keep from getting stain on your chinking?
There 3 options. 1st – You can stain the entire house over the chink and all, then re-chink after staining. 2nd – You can stain the entire house as above, then paint the chink. It is about the same cost if you are having it done professionally because painting takes a little longer than chinking and there will be more labor than chinking it again, but you do not have the cost of the chink. 3rd – Brush the entire house when staining cutting in along existing chink. Very labor intensive and could very easily exceed the cost of re-chinking since you have to go around the house at least twice, some stains 4 times.
