We purchased a home build in 1938 that has wood framing. On the exterior of the walls there is tar paper fastened to the studs and then half log siding nailed directly to the 2 x 4s through the tar paper. There is no plywood sheathing and there is no insulation in the walls. The interior walls are covered with wood planks that are also fastened directly to the 2 x 4s. The logs have never been chinked.
