We put up a red cedar log home in 1992 and its been nothing but maintenance, maintenance, and so on. the knots are as we all know are nothing but old limbs which decayed during growth of tree. most knots are rotted to the point where there was black like sawdust through the entire log. water gets in year round even though I’ve filled most all knots many times with log recommended products. I’m done with it and wanting to cover the whole house with a no maintenance siding. what type of siding
I would recommend using Hardy Plank siding. Be sure to repair any rot before covering. If there is no stain on the logs, a coat of glycol borate like Shell Guard should be applied first also. Install a vapor barrier like Tyvek. You will have to install fur stripping to get a good flat surface to install siding onto.
