We recently purchased a small farm that has alog barn that was built in the 1800’s. We are planning to move another barn built in the same era to the property. We would like to restore and utilize the buildings for storage. What should we do regarding replacing a few badly damage logs and preserve from further decay? What would be the best material to use to seal between logs?
With the building being moved, if there are bad logs you should have replacement ones made at a local sawmill and put them in their proper spots at reconstruction. The existing barn should have the rotten logs replaced. Call Ryan at 877-788-5647 for help with this part.
You should also apply a liberal amount of Shell Guard on all exterior wood surfaces on these buildings.Seal between the logs with Grip Strip foam and put a layer of Perma Chink over it. Call timeless Wood Care Products at 800-564-2987 for help with these materials.
