Sealing Gaps Between Old and New Log Siding

I have a log sided house that was originally just wood sided. They strapped it and put on log siding. I have found from replacing windows that there is a gap between the old wall and the new log out side wall that is open at the bottem. Should this gap be sealed to creat a dead air space or left open for circulation between the two walls.
