We are considering buying a home that is in foreclosure and has 1/4 log siding. The home has been vacant for at least one year and in several places individual boards have begun to peel back from the structure. If it is warping like that it probably isn’t attached properly. I would also say that those pieces need to be replaced. It sounds like it needs to be corn cob blasted to strip old finish off and start over again. Log siding is going to require some maintenance every 4 or 4 years just like full logs. To have it professionally maintained you should budget about $1.50 per square foot of living space / per year.
