Woodguard is a thin stain when applied and does soak into the wood fiber, but since you sanded it first I can’t imagine that it went in too far. Woodguard breaks down fairly fast so it should be able to be removed easily. I would recommend corn cob or glass blasting, Osborne brushing after then applying Life Line stain from Perma Chink. I have never had a customer tell me they were having problems like you are describing with this stain. It is a latex based stain versus Woodguard is oil based.
