We have built a new cabin and have ordered hand hued 10” half log for the interior and 4” X 4” trim around the big windows from Wisconsin Log Home. Our builder and stainer suggest we put up the logs and trim up first and then clear coating twice with sanding in between coats. Our stainer says he is going to spray this on. Do you have any suggestions on varnish material that will improve the yellowing concern? Does this sound like a great plan or is there a better option?
First, I’m not sure if you are planning on sanding the logs, but you shouldn’t or you will loose the hand hewn look. You should NOT use varnish. You should use a latex materiel like Life Line Interior stain (it comes in clear) with a acrylic top coat. Call Dave at 800-564-2987 for the materials you need and more help on application. Has this stainer ever used products for a log home? Be sure he knows whats going on or it could get very pricey to correct.
