We built a log home approximately 26 years ago from a kit. It was stained with Sikkens. We have re-done it a couple of times, but the last time we added more stain to the end where it weathers worse. Now we need to completely re-do it. We have done some research and found you can use the Smart Strip to completely get the old stain off, but this is pretty pricey. Avoid the liquid stripper. It requires large amounts of water which will get too deep into the wood fiber if a power washer is involved, plus water leaking inside can be a big problem. Ideally, if you are changing stains, you should strip the old stain off. You could put the solid stain over the Sikkens, but you need to wire brush or Osborne brush the loose flaky stain off first and give a light wash with Log Wash.
