I have a log home that was custom built approx 5 years ago, the logs on the interior were never sanded. I’m preparing to undertake this huge/messy endeavor. Once complete I’d like to consider finishes. My builder recommends not using an interior finish but I really like the appearance of finsihed logs. Are there any downsides to finishing vs unfinished bare logs? The logs are Ponderosa pine – swedish cope/saddle notch construction.
Any easy way to tackle the sanding job would be appreciated
Unfinished logs will collect dirt and dust and start to look bad in a short period of time. We recomend a light coat of Light Honey Life Line Stain with a coat of Acrylic Satin or Gloss on top. You can use just the Acrylic if you would not like to add any color to the logs. This helps in the future to wahs the logs down. With no finish you will just rub the dust and dirt into the logs when you etempt to wash them. Call Timeless Wood Care Products for more Information at 800-564-2987.
