I am going to build a white pine log home. A local HVAC contractor advised a system that includes humidity control. If this is addressed from time of build, will it help keep the integrity of log and wood materials? Is this a wise investment or wasted money? What humidity level is ideal?
I’m not sure how it will help the integrity of the logs, but it will be helpful in the winter when it is so dry. I would not recommend using White Pine since it is very susceptible to rot. Red Pine is a better choice. What ever material you build with you should definitely apply a good borate treatment before staining. Shell Guard from Perma Chink is what I would recommend.
