I have purchased a cypress log home that is 15 years old, previous owner did not keep up with maintance so I am in the process of calking out side cracks. I would like to fine someone in my area that does cleaning and staining of log homes,I live in North west Indiana. Thanks for you help
First, you should not be filling the cracks. Over time the caulk will get as hairlinecrack from the wood and still allow water to seep in behind it. Now that you have filled the majority of the opening it cannot dry out and will cause log rot. You will have to very vigilant on inspecting them at least twice a year and repair any breaks. The slightest little separation from the wood will cause problems. I have seen whole walls rotted out from filling the checks (cracks) in the logs. Call Mike at 877-670-3020 for help in your area with the cleaning and staining.
